High potential talent identification

If your three most critical roles opened tomorrow, how many have a successor you have high confidence in?

Organisations tend to pivot towards using past performance as the primary criteria for future potential. There is more to it than that, and we help you find your truly high potential talent.

We use the Aaroha Potential Lens to help organisations determine who their high potential talent are. The Aaroha Potential Lens asks four questions through an identification scorecard.

The Aaroha 4A Potential Lens. Four coloured spirals arranged around a central diamond, one for each dimension: Anchoring, Ability, Agility and Aspiration. Each carries the question used to assess it.
The Aaroha Potential Lens: four questions asked of every name on the list.

Dimension 01

Ability

Can they hold a significantly bigger, more complex role, not just more of the same?

Dimension 02

Agility

Can they learn faster than the environment changes?

Dimension 03

Aspiration

Do they genuinely want to grow here, or are we projecting ambition onto someone who has quietly opted out?

Dimension 04

Anchoring

Do they lead with self-awareness, steadiness and integrity, or do they just lead big?

Anchoring is the one most systems skip, and the one that decides whether a high-potential becomes a leader or an expensive correction.

Outcome

What you walk away with

  • A defensible high-potential listBacked by a completed Potential Lens assessment across all four dimensions.
  • A completed scorecard for your target populationApplied consistently, so names can be compared rather than argued over.
  • A decided high-potential talent poolThe list you can actually plan succession and investment against.

High potential talent assessment

What should I look for in a leader beyond their ability to achieve results?

We have observed that while achieving results is paramount, leaders need to focus on two different aspects of who they are in order to be successful, inspiring organisation builders.

Which shapes who they are

The inner game

Whether you can observe yourself and self-correct in the moment, whether you are purpose led, whether you are calm and steadfast in the middle of chaos, and whether you have the courage of conviction needed.

Which shapes what they do

The outer game

Be the leader others need you to be, use your power for the good of the system while achieving results, and grow successors so you can focus on the next role.

We have built a multi-rater feedback tool based on the eight Aaroha Leadership Principles, translatable across organisations and applicable to all levels of leadership. Identified high potentials can get feedback on these Principles and build a focused plan for development.

The eight Aaroha Leadership Principles arranged as two ascending paths meeting at a peak. The inner-game path rises through Observe Yourself, Know Your Why, Stand Steady and Be the Truth Teller. The outer-game path descends through Be Others-In, Own Power as Responsibility, Serve the Whole and Grow Others.
